Where to stay when working in Tenerife
Tenerife has two very different centres of activity: the metropolitan area in the north, around the capital and the university, and the tourist south, around Tenerife South airport. They are about 60–80 km apart by motorway, so choosing the right area for your corporate housing in Tenerife can save employees more than an hour of driving every day.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife
The capital and the island’s main business centre. Here you will find the port, the Cabildo (island council), regional government offices, banks, law firms and company headquarters, as well as the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria. Santa Cruz has the widest choice of serviced apartments on the island, plenty of public transport and everything within walking distance in the city centre. It is the best base for office-based roles, public-sector projects and port or logistics work.
San Cristóbal de La Laguna
A university city and UNESCO World Heritage Site, connected to Santa Cruz by tram. It is home to the University of La Laguna, the Hospital Universitario de Canarias, Tenerife North airport and the Los Majuelos industrial estate. A good choice for researchers, healthcare staff, academic visitors and teams working in the metropolitan area.
South: Granadilla, El Médano and Tenerife South airport
The south-east concentrates the industrial port of Granadilla, business parks, the ITER renewable energy institute and the island’s main international airport. El Médano, a lively coastal town next to the airport, is the most practical place to stay for engineers, technicians and airport staff working in this area.
Costa Adeje, Arona and Los Cristianos
The heart of Tenerife’s hotel industry, with dozens of hotels, resorts, restaurants and the Magma congress centre. Furnished apartments here suit hospitality teams, maintenance crews, seasonal staff and hotel opening or refurbishment projects. Choosing an apartment slightly away from the nightlife areas helps employees rest well.
Puerto de la Cruz and La Orotava
In the north of the island, with year-round tourist and commercial activity, a milder climate and a quieter pace of life. Useful for projects in the Orotava Valley and for long stays away from the busier south.
Best neighbourhoods to live in Tenerife
If your employees prefer to live away from the main centres of activity, Tenerife has quiet residential areas that are well connected by the TF-1 motorway and close to the capital. They are especially popular for long stays and for professionals relocating with their family.
Radazul and Tabaiba
Seaside residential areas just south of Santa Cruz, with a marina, sea views and a calm atmosphere. Most apartments here are spacious and many buildings have pools or terraces. Santa Cruz is about a 10–15 minute drive away, which makes them a comfortable option for long assignments.
Candelaria
A coastal town halfway between Santa Cruz and the south, with shops, restaurants and services all year round and direct access to the TF-1. It is a smart base if the work alternates between the capital and the south of the island, or for teams with sites in both areas.
Barrio de Salamanca and El Toscal (Santa Cruz)
Central, residential neighbourhoods of the capital, close to the Parque García Sanabria and the main shopping streets. Everything is within walking distance, from supermarkets to cafés and bus and tram stops, so employees can live comfortably without a car.
Major events in Tenerife
Tenerife’s economy is built on tourism, services, the port and a growing number of companies attracted by the Canary Islands’ special tax regime. Beyond your company’s own calendar, these are the dates and trends to keep in mind when booking serviced apartments in Tenerife:
The southern high season (November–April)
Winter is peak season in Costa Adeje, Arona and Los Cristianos, when the island receives the most visitors. Demand for accommodation rises and prices go up, so book early if your team works in the south during these months.
Santa Cruz Carnival (February–March)
One of the largest carnivals in the world and an event of international tourist interest. It fills the capital for several weeks, so if your project coincides with it, book well in advance.
Film and TV productions
The Canary Islands offer some of the most competitive tax incentives in Europe for audiovisual productions, and Tenerife regularly hosts international shoots. These projects usually need to house whole crews for weeks, close to the shooting locations.
Companies relocating to the Canary Islands
The Canary Islands Special Zone (ZEC), with a reduced corporate tax rate, and the local IGIC tax instead of VAT attract companies and remote teams to the island. Relocated employees often need furnished accommodation for their first months while they find a long-term home.
Congresses and trade fairs
The Recinto Ferial in Santa Cruz and the Magma congress centre in Costa Adeje host trade fairs, conferences and corporate events throughout the year.
Corporate housing vs holiday rentals
- Apartments for weeks or months, with a kitchen, Wi-Fi and space to rest.
- A single contract and a single invoice for all bookings on the island.
- A stable price for the whole stay, even in high season.
- Professional managers and verified accommodation.
- Easy extensions if the project runs longer.
